Record Overcrounding At The Shelter

June 09, 2005

Metro Animal Control has reached a record. One in which most people do not want to reach.

Nashville, TN, USA

The Metro Animal Control has reached a record number of animals within their shelter. It's highly overcrounded. and with so many dogs and cats Metro officials say they are running out of room.

“We're wall to wall animals. We're moving dogs from impound to adoption as fast as we can, but there's no way to keep up with them,” says Billy Biggs of Metro Animal Control on Wednesday.

To add to the problem there have been more animal cruelty cases in which the animals have been taken into the shelters care.

Though strays are commenly put down within three days, animals of cruelty cases are kept until the court case is resolved, which can be upwards of five to six months and then if possible are found homes.

The Metro Animal shelter has 11 Pit Bulls that have been there for almost eight months pending the trial of their owners.
