Borough President Gives $496,000 To ShelterJune 09, 2005To help reduce the number of unwanted animals, Borough President James P. Molinaro donates $496,000. Staten Island,NY,USA Mr. Molinaro gave the Island unit of New York City Animal Care and Control (ACC) facility with a check for $496,000 which will be used to build a surgical spay and neuter unit and help with other renovation costs. In January of 2004 Edward Boks became ACC's executive director with the goal of making it a no-kill agency of which no animals have been put to sleep since. The problem of overcrouding however due to the increasing population of unwanted animals on the Island has caused a strain on the shelter. The funding from Molinaro's capital projects budget will help build a spay and neuter clinic offering free or low-cost procedures for qualifying families and will help reduce the number of stray and unwanted pets. The allocation also will provide funds for general renovations and to repair the shelter's heating and air-conditioning systems. Posted by Scott at June 9, 2005 12:04 PM | TrackBack |
