German Spitz

The German Spitz is a dog breed or group of dog breeds of the Spitz type.

In Germany, there are five separate breeds of German Spitz:

  • Wolfspitz (Keeshond)
  • Gross
  • Mittel
  • Klein
  • Zwerspitz (Pomeranian).

Most Kennel clubs recognize only the Klein and Mittel varieties of German Spitz and the Pomeranian and Keeshond as breeds in themselves.

The white-coated variety of the German Spitz closely resembles other small Spitz breeds, including the American Eskimo Dog and the Japanese Spitz.
